A Sunday without a charter, sunshine and a perfect marine forecast had me itching to go fishing. Trying to wake my girlfriend up at 5:30 am is a different story.
Leaving the Port Mcneill dock at 6:20 am, we drive across the Queen Charlotte Strait to fish for salmon at a spot I have been eyeballing on the marine charts.

Fishing a rock face on an ebb tide was productive from the get go. Catching a 22 lb halibut on the salmon gear kept Mel (my girlfriend) from going back to sleep.

After losing the first spring salmon, we turn around, re-bait and try for another. What would you know, a double header. Mel releases her smaller one and nets the 27 inch little feeder spring salmon. Perfect for the BBQ.

After fishing the slack tide we move to jig some halibut, Mel’s favorite. Her arms were burning after reeling in this red snapper.

No time for a nap today, there was plenty of action.
