With winter now behind us, I think mother nature had a hard time letting go. From rain and brief hail storms to snow and blue skies. But does the weather really matter when the river is in great shape?

“Chrome is worth almost as much as Gold” (if your a steelhead fisherman!)
The river is up one foot from last week when I fished it last. Knowing that this rain has definetly sent up some fresh chromers* I was anticipating a tug-of war with anything that would bite (even a micro).

A couple light taps let me know there was some fish in the first pool I went to. When my float went shooting down there was no mistake for bottom. I set the hook and then the fun began. This fish was fresh from the ocean and wasn’t interested in coming to shore for our portrait together anytime soon.
I feel very privileged to be living in an area where I can catch these beautiful wild steelhead regularly, but its so satisfying releasing them. Ahhhh that’s better.
Luckily the hook was set well, so I do my C.P.R (Catch, Picture, Release) and send the wild doe back on her way. This was the only fish pic of the day. There was some other spunky fish that graced our presence, just never made it to shore for the portrait.
*Chromer – (english) Angling term for a bright fresh fish (in British Columbia).
